Hello guys! Lost Episode 05 of season 6 (S06e05) "Lighthouse" has been an eventful and interesting episode in which lot of new things came to view.

- David ( Jacks Son)

- Lighthouse
- Claire weirdness
- Shannon's Inhaler
- Dial with the mirror on which numbers along with names were written.

Just like cave scenario, except candidates and one non-candidate ( Austin ) all numbers were crossed. We will discuss why Jacob tells Hurley to move the dial at position of 108 Degrees. Whose name is written at 108 degrees? Lets try to find out the relation between numbers. As we know that 108 is the sum of THE NUMBERS ( 4+8+15+16+23+42).

4= John Locke
8 =Hugo Hurley Rays
15=James Sawyer Ford
16=Sayid Jarrah
23=Jack
42= Kwon ( Jin )

What is Common between All these names?? John, James, Jarrah, Jack, Jin !!?? Except Hurley all names share a first or last name start with J. What about Hurley lets find out whats his real name!! You Kidding!! ?? It's Jorge Garcia. :D So lets suppose we have found a letter J common in candidates. Now lets associate this setup with 108 the resultant figure!! Did any one notice the name written next to 108 digit was WALLACE???
Who could be Wallace!

Assuming its a last name! lets try to think like we didn'n know KWON was name for JIN may be Wallace is the name for some one we already know?

If we continue " J letter " theory, think of any name in Lostpedia which comes to you mind starting with J ??

What about JACOB??? Was Hurley told to move the dial at 108 because Jacob wanted to show something to Jack? What relation he has with Jack! What does he want from him ??

There is one more feature which all candidates and Jacob share.

All candidates represented by numbers have been chosen for a common purpose which is to save/protect the island! So what do you expect the product(SUM) of all those number would do ? Protect the Island ? and who has been protecting Island so far :)

One last thing to add here Wallace name is crossed out, which means he is dead right ? So Jacob is he dead or not :S

Guys It was just a thought just like any other theory or prediction made by just another fan of LOST :D, So it may right, It may be wrong.

Who is Jack Shepherd's Son, David's mom?

Jack has a son named David, who is a teenage piano prodigy. If we recall of few episodes of Jack then we will remember that he also played the piano at times. Jack is also, like his own dad, a kind of absentee parent, estranged from his son. There are plenty mentions of David’s mother, but in a possible tease, we don’t see who she is???

Okay if we focus then here are few points which can be argued.

In the alternate reality, Jack has a son named David, David’s mom is not introduced to us, but is no longer with Jack. David has blue eyes and freckles – Could Kate be his mom? David is reading Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland., Jack read Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland to Aaron. On the island, Jacob uses the phrase “You’ve got what it takes” to lure Jack into his plan. In the alternate reality, Jack tells David “I guess I wasn’t cut out for it.” David’s mother’s address is 233 – Jack’s number in the cave was 23. Jack finds the key to David’s mother’s house under a ceramic rabbit, similar to how the white rabbit guided Alice to a key in Adventures in Wonderland. In the alternate reality, Jack doesn’t drink. On the island, Jack alludes that drinking (and other things) lead him back to the island to be fixed. Jacob has instructed Jack and Hurley to turn the dial to 108. “Lighthouse” mark’s the 108th episode of LOST. The dial in the Lighthouse looks similar to the one used by Eloise Hawking at the Lampost Dharma station. David plays the same recital piece that Daniel Faraday played. The Other that is present in Jack’s new alternate reality is Dogen. Through the Looking Glass explores alternate realities and timelines on the other side of a mirror, and the mirror in the Lighthouse reflects past realities through images of the Oceanic 6’s past.

In 6x04: The Substitute, a blonde child appears to Locke (Man In Black). This child is likely Jacob during his younger years. The boy shares a similar facial structure to Jacob, including matching eyes, noses, and lips. While it is difficult to compare the child to baby Aaron (although the two have blond hair and fair skin), the child also looks like Claire. Again, both characters have matching eyes, noses, lips. Are we on to something here?

The casting call described the mysterious boy as “Teenage boy, caucasian, 12-14, Dirty blond hair, Wise beyond his years, He’s got intense, searching eyes, He’s dealt with a horrible family accident, Even at a young age, he has been put in charge of something very important, and it weighs heavily on this shoulders.” This description seems to be in line with the way Jacob looks and acts as an adult.

Tesla plane crash

Three executives of Tesla Motors, are believed to be dead after the small plane crash in east Palo Alto. Right after taking off in thick fog Wednesday morning, as reported by the car website Jalopnik, which says it received confirmation from a Tesla representative.

At about 7:55 a.m., the twin-engine Cessna 310, which took off from Palo Alto Airport heading for Los Angeles County’s Hawthorne Municipal Airport, crashed into a residential neighborhood in East Palo Alto and might have caused widespread power outages. The plane was believed to be owned by Doug Bourn, a senior electrical engineer for Tesla Motors, a spokesperson with the company told The San Francisco Chronicle.

The Tesla plane is believed to have led to power outages in the City of Palo Alto.

As reported by authorities, A small plane crashed this morning in a residential neighborhood in East Palo Alto, killing three people onboard.

The plane crash happend on the 1200 block of Beech Street near Pulgas Avenue about 7:55 a.m., said Lt. Ray Lunny of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department. Due to the crash, a house on the street was damaged and the plane destroyed three cars, Lunny said, but there were no reports of injuries on the ground.

FAA records show that the plane is registered to Air Unique Inc. of Santa Clara. It was manufactured in 1976.

Gregor said the cause of the crash was not known, but there were reports that the plane hit an electrical tower or wires on takeoff. There was also thick fog where the plane crashed.

Power outages were reported in the area. Palo Alto officials said major power outages were affecting the city and that residents were being asked to conserve water while power is out. Water transmission relies on electrical power and Palo Alto has limited reserves in the water system, city officials said.

Palo Alto's electricity system is municipally owned. Joe Molica, a spokesman for Pacific Gas and Electric Co., said none of the utility's customers was affected but that the crash had damaged three transmission lines that feed into Palo Alto's system.

David Rages, who lives on the 1000 block of Beech Street about a block from the crash site, said he had heard a loud boom when the plane hit, then silence.

"At first I didn't think anything of it," Rages said. He walked down the block a short time later to where police and fire officials had blocked off the street and was able to see some dark smoke, but no fire through the fog.

Toyota company announced today it is thinking through a Corolla recall after dozens of complaints about power steering problems.

Toyota also introduced a new series of efforts to boost quality. Toyota said it will add brake-shift overrides on all vehicles, take better advantage of vehicle data recorders and speed up its recall decisions.

At the other hand the company repeated it didn't believe that electronic defects are to blame for sudden acceleration reports. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that it has received more than 2,000 complaints, alleging 34 deaths, since 2000 in connection with runaway Toyota vehicles.
The company's president, Akio Toyoda, said in Tokyo today that he does not plan to testify at congressional hearings that start a week from today on the company's recall of more than 8.5 million vehicles worldwide. He's leaving that chore to his North American executives.

Toyoda said, "We are not covering up anything, and we are not running away from anything,".
"I trust that our officials in the U.S. will amply answer the questions," Toyoda said today in his third news conference in two weeks. "We are sending the best people to the hearing, and I hope to back up the efforts from headquarters."

He is creating a special committee on global quality, which Toyoda will head with chief quality officers from Europe, the United States and other regions. The blue ribbon panel will meet March for the first time.
"To heighten the level of reassurance for those who use our vehicles, we will add a brake-override system, which cuts engine power when the accelerator and brake pedals are applied at the same time, to all future vehicle models worldwide," he said.

"As for our recall decision-making process, regional representatives (chief safety officers) will be included on our recall decision panel, improving the sharing of information between Japan and other regions, with an aim for more appropriate and timely decision-making," he said.
In the U.S., Sasaki said, Toyota will aim "to be able to conduct on-site inspections within 24 hours of reported incidents by fine-tuning our information-gathering capabilities."

New Toyota vehicles will be equipped "with an expanded range of functionality for diagnosing problems automatically and for recording events electronically, as well as carrying out other tasks. This functionality will be helpful in promptly evaluating technological issues and in promptly taking corrective measures."
Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, is disappointed that Toyoda isn't planning to testify before the committee next week.
"Mr. Toyoda was given every opportunity to come before Congress and the American people voluntarily to provide answers and assurances that Toyota will do everything in its power to ensure the safety of America's drivers," said Issa's spokesman, Kurt Bardella.

Stephane Lambiel is back in 2010 Olympics. And while he's not sitting in the gold medal position heading into Thursday's free skate at the Pacific Coliseum, he's every bit as happy as his Russian counterpart to be back. Perhaps even more so.

Unlike Plushenko, Lambiel didn't quit because he was bored or tired of the daily routine of training. He was forced to the sidelines by a persistent hip problem that caused him concern his skating career might be over.

"It was a long day waiting to skate," said the 2005 and 2006 world champion and the 2006 Olympic silver medallist. "It was hard to deal with. I have to say I was nervous. I was just trying to tell myself to listen to the music and do what my body knows to do."

As said by Stephane Lambiel : "Last year at this time I couldn't skate more than twice a week before the hip would start to bother me. At that point, I never could have imagined I'd be here today."

The 24-year-old Swiss champion wasn't quite perfect in Tuesday's short program. Skating to the William Tell Overture he came close to dropping down to one knee on the landing of his quad toe loop and consequently was only able to add a double toe loop as the second part of his combination. He was awarded three Level 4 scores on his spins and footwork and two Level 3s.

That was good enough for a personal best short program score of 84.63 points and fifth place behind the leader Plushenko.

"In general I was happy, but a little disappointed with the double toe," said Lambiel, whose mother is Portuguese. "I'm pleased that the judges and the crowd seemed to like me."

China has gained the gold medal at the Vancouver 2010 in figure skating, the new heroes are Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo who have gained the gold medal at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics in the figure skating are so happy about representing their country and winning a gold medal. Zhao, who had won the world title 3 times with Shen said “This is a dream come true”. China had never before won an Olympic figure skating gold and in true Olympic style, another pair from China, Pang Qing and Tong Jian, won the silver medal.

No? Oh, well, no biggie. There was just one teensy-tiny reveal: We found out why they are on the island! And oh yeah, what the numbers are too!

So what does it all really mean? And what did Lost boss Damon Lindelof just tell me moments ago about "The List?!" Put on some pants and get in here!

What We Learned

4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42, Bitches! Hurley's infamous lottery numbers, which have shown up in countless Easter Eggs since Lost's inception, turned out to be numbers with corresponding names on a list of Jacob's "candidates." These candidates are next in line to "protect the island"...which, let's be honest, at this point, has to be the world, right? So who do we have on Team Good/Jacob? Ladies and gentlefans, your star lineup...

* #4: John Locke, claimed by Jacob after falling out of a window
* #8: Hugo "Hurley" Reyes, claimed by Jacob in the backseat of a car
* #15: James "Sawyer" Ford, claimed by Jacob at his father's funeral
* #16: Sayid Jarrah, claimed by Jacob right before Nadia was hit by a car
* #23: Jack Shepard, claimed by Jacob at a vending machine
* #42: "Kwon," claimed by Jacob at their wedding...but which one?! Is it Jin or Sun?!

After kindly telling executive producer Damon Lindelof tonight that he better end up including both our beloved Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) and Sun (Yunjin Kim) on Team Jacob (and, um, possibly calling him a "stingy bastard" in the most loving way possible), Damon shot back: "I will process your appeal to have both Kwons listed!" Hooray! Make it so.

WHAT ABOUT KATE?! I'm so shocked she's not on Jacob's list I don't even know where to begin. Is her middle name "Kwon?" Did Jacob misspell "Kate?" Me = speechless. Is she simply important because she's meant to raise Aaron? "Jacob was a sexist," Damon jokes. "What can I say?" If Kwon does turn out to be Jin, the numbers above would all correspond to males. Hmph.

What About the Other Losties? Although other names ("Littleton" and "Goodspeed") appear to be visible on the cave wall, it seems they've all been crossed out with the exception of the six people above who correspond to Hurley's numbers (4,8, 15, 16, 23, 42). So one would assume these six are the only remaining viable "candidates." Therefore, question: If Claire and Sayid are both "infected," why is he on the list and she's not? And now that Fake Locke told us the candidates can become "the new Jacob," it certainly seems more plausible that Sayid became just that when he was brought back to life via the Temple water.

Jason Davis or aka Gummie Bear aka Greasy Bear the overindulged rich brat who lives off of daddy's dime appeared on Bravo's TV reality show, The Millionaire Matchmaker, evidently looking for love and swearing he was clean but his slurred speech and erratic behavior said otherwise.

Moreover claiming he'd give Patty 2 or 3 million dollars if she found him true love while living in a rather small apartment with broken blinds, Davis opted to have a monkey present during his date... oh yeah, he farted aswell.

Lately it was reported that Davis got an eviction notice for nonpayment of his $3,600 LA rental. I suspect he only did the show for profile-raising.

Drake Passage off Argentina was struck with and earthquake of 6.3 magnitude on Sunday morning. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale, struck about 220 miles (354 km) southeast of Ushuaia, the capital of the Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego. The earthquake’s epicenter was situated about 6 miles deep, making it a shallow earthquake.

The earthquake struck at 8 a.m. local time (1200 GMT). No tsunami warnings were issued by the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center. The earthquake caused no damage as it was quite far off from land.

To create financial flexibility that could make signing Harden easier, the Rangers are on the verge of trading starter Kevin Millwood to the Orioles for reliever Chris Ray, ESPNDallas.com reported.

Harden was 9-9 with a 4.09 ERA in 26 games for the Cubs in 2009. The Cubs did not offer Harden salary arbitration, making him a free agent. Harden made $7 million last season in Chicago.

Harden, who would pitching for his third major league team, has a 50-29 record with a 3.39 ERA in 127 starts.

The Milwaukee Brewers have money to spend in free agency and they dropped a bunch of it on two pitchers Wednesday.

Left-handed starter Randy Wolf and the Brewers have agreed to a three-year contract worth $29.75 million, major league sources tell ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney. Wolf's contract contains a fourth-year option, sources said.

Later in the day, Milwaukee agreed with right-hander reliever LaTroy Hawkins on a two-year contract worth $7.5 million.

Wolf, 33, was 11-7 with a 3.23 ERA this year in his lone season with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He had a $5 million base salary and earned $3 million in performance bonuses based on innings.

Wolf also was a free agent last offseason. He agreed to the deal with the Dodgers on Feb. 6, about 1½ months after Houston offered a $27 million, three-year contract and then withdrew the proposal a week later, citing the poor economy.

Hawkins, a 14-year veteran, made 65 appearances with Houston last season and was 1-4 with a 2.13 ERA and 11 saves.

Swarbrick said he recommended to university president the Rev. John Jenkins on Sunday night that Weis be let go with six years left on his contract. Weis finishes with a 35-27 record in five seasons, among the worst of any Fighting Irish coach.

Assistant head coach Rob Ianello will step in for Weis until a new coach is hired.
The Fighting Irish (6-6) are eligible to play in a bowl game, but Swarbrick has said he wants to hear from the players before deciding if Notre Dame will go to a minor postseason game.

Following a 6-2 start this season, Notre Dame's losing streak began with the second upset by Navy in three years. Then came losses to Pittsburgh and to Connecticut in double overtime on senior day in South Bend. By the time the Irish lost their season-finale to Stanford on Saturday, it seemed inevitable Weis would be gone.

At the Bedford Post Inn’s Yoga Loft, Martha Stewart and Christina Ricci have stopped by for some downward-facing dog.

The inn’s co-owner, former "Law & Order" star Carey Lowell, sometimes works a vinyasa class into her busy schedule.

And Lowell’s husband and business partner — who just happens to be Richard Gere — often shows up to meditate.

But that doesn’t mean the area’s most high-profile yoga studio is an elite club, banned to all but A-listers and celebrity owners.

"The whole center was built for the locals," says Yoga Loft manager Fahmida Molla. "You don’t have to be someone special or famous to come here."

Although one must pay at least $400 to spend the night at one of the inn’s eight ultra-luxurious rooms (where the linens are Frette and all fixtures are from Waterworks), a stay isn’t required to visit the Yoga Loft.

There’s no exclusive membership, walk-ins are encouraged, and a single class costs a moderate $20, a fee that’s on par with other nearby studios. Not to mention, the Loft is a place where one can do a lot more than sun salutations.

Gere, Lowell and a third owner, Russell Hernandez, opened the Yoga Loft in May 2008, months before the inn and its upscale Farmhouse restaurant welcomed their first guests.

(A casual cafe, the Barn, was first to debut at the site, in January 2008.)

Since its launch, the Loft has progressed nicely toward the trio’s vision of the space as a gathering spot for high-minded residents.

Free two-hour meditation sessions held every Wednesday night, run by John and Natalie Baker from the Shambhala Meditation Center of New York, now draw as many as 50 people.

Workshops are offered each month with experts on such topics as Kabbalah and ayurvedic, or alternative medicine. Over the summer, attendees packed the room to hear two Tibetan monks, who are among the world’s most venerated Buddhism teachers, talk about joyful wisdom and the key to happiness. (It probably helped to have Gere’s connections in booking those particular guests; the actor is a longtime Buddhist and friend of the Dalai Lama.) And next month, the Yoga Loft will host an invitation-only fundraiser to benefit the Lineage Project, one of Gere’s favorite charities, which provides yoga and mediation to at-risk and incarcerated New York City teenagers.

"Richard is kind of a dreamer, but he hopes people from all walks of life put their heads together and try to make the world a better place," says Molla.

It doesn’t hurt that visitors are helping to effect change in a richly rustic setting.

Some of Bedford’s popular horse trails run through the 15-acre property, where the inn, yoga studio and two eateries nestle together. Lowell spearheaded the design and décor in all of the fully renovated buildings, but Molla says that the Yoga Loft is "definitely Carey’s project, Carey’s baby."

The actress personally purchased every mat, blanket, strap and block used by the studio’s students, and Lowell describes the spare yet pastoral style as "sort of a Japanese, simplistic, earthy expanse of space."

The Loft boasts a vaulted ceiling, burnished hardwood floors and trim (in chestnut recycled from a dismantled Bedford barn) and three walls of multipaned windows that lend a sunny air on even the grayest day. One entryway gives a clever nod to the area’s equestrian history, with thick, sliding oak doors that look like those found in a stable.

It’s unusually beautiful for a yoga studio: So much so, one couple insisted on having their wedding there.

The Loft also made an impression on Manhattan architect David Salazar, who stayed at the inn recently with his girlfriend and made use of a complimentary yoga session. After gracefully flowing his way through an integrated vinyasa class, Salazar had compliments for both his instructor and the studio’s vibe.

"This is very casual and comforting, but at the same time, it’s very refined," says Salazar. "I’ve been here less than 24 hours, but already I can tell it’s a Locals like Suzy Kunhardt of Chappaqua, who attends classes at least three times a week, have made a habit of grabbing a freshly baked muffin afterward at the Barn, the bistro conveniently located just one floor below the studio.

(Not so convenient is the babble from the Barn’s wildly popular Sunday brunches; no yoga classes are offered on that day because of the noise.)

"I come here and I’m in Paris," says Kunhardt. "I smell the croissants, I smell the fire, and I smell the coffee and I’m in another world. So it’s not just the yoga."

Those words are music to Lowell’s ears.

"I’m thrilled that the community is embracing it," she says. "That’s what the goal was from the beginning."

Lowell, who lives in nearby Pound Ridge with Gere and their young son, Homer, explains that she and her husband got their idea after riding their horses past the once-derelict site, back then home to a crumbling, 18th-century house and barn. Gere, especially, lamented the fact that the area didn’t have a real hangout, or — to use the couple’s word for it — a "clubhouse."

Since then, it seems that the place has become exactly that.

Neighborhood pals meet up regularly at the Loft for mid-morning yoga classes after dropping their children at the bus stop. The Tuesday evening ashtanga class is a popular one for mothers and their teenage daughters. Families get together for lunch at the Barn after weekend Little League games. Area residents discuss what they’ve learned from the Loft’s renowned speakers over organic cappuccinos.

As a newcomer to the hospitality industry, Lowell says she was charmed to discover that cooking professionals have an attitude toward food that perfectly parallels the inn’s concept.

"Chefs ... think of food as communion in a way. It’s the breaking of bread and the sharing of a meal," she says. "At the Yoga Loft, and the property in general, there is a sharing of meals and minds. There are no limitations."

RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia fired Al Groh after nine seasons as football coach at his alma mater Sunday, ending a tenure marked by his inability to beat rival Virginia Tech.
Groh's dismissal came less than 24 hours after the Cavaliers (3-9, 2-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) lost 42-13 at home to the No. 11 Hokies, finishing their worst season since they were 2-9 in 1982. It also was their eighth loss to the Hokies in Groh's nine tries.
"There is not a coach in the college game who has worked harder than Al Groh in trying to build a football program," athletic director Craig Littlepage said in a statement. "Football is his life and he dedicated himself to the university and to our football team. We are grateful for his service and for his commitment to his players and his coaching staff."
Groh, 65, had two years remaining on his contract and will receive a buyout of approximately $4.33 million, Littlepage said. The search for a replacement will begin immediately.
Groh was hired on Dec. 30, 2000, when he resigned after one season as the head coach of the New York Jets to take over at the school where he lettered in football and lacrosse, graduating in 1967. He replaced George Welsh, who had retired after 19 seasons.
Welsh, then the ACC career leader in victories, had just two losing seasons in his 19 years, but the Cavaliers finished 6-6 in his final season, prompting the change.
Groh went 59-53 with the Cavaliers and guided them to five bowl games, including four straight beginning with his second season. The team averaged eight wins over those four years, but managed just one more winning season in his last four, going 9-4 in 2007.
Groh, the ACC coach of the year in 2002 and '07, was 36-36 in conference games.
Virginia lost its final six games this year and its last six against the Hokies, who joined the conference in 2004 and have been the league's dominant team ever since.
Virginia's decline was especially felt at home games, where the average attendance for 61,500-seat Scott Stadium had dropped by 13,600 in two seasons heading into Saturday afternoon's game. That drew a season-high 58,555 fans, but nearly half of them were Hokies supporters and many chanted "Keep Al Groh!" as the final minutes ticked off the clock.
In his postgame news conference, Groh did not directly answer a question about his future, but instead read a poem, "The Guy in the Glass," about how the most important person an individual has to please is himself. He closed with a testimonial about himself.
"When I visited the guy in the glass, I saw that he's a guy of commitment, of integrity, of dependability and accountability," Groh said. "He's loyal, his spirit is indomitable and he's caring and loving. I'm sure I will always call the guy in the glass a friend."
Groh also read the poem to his team before meeting with the media, and besides their disappointing finish, the players were emotional about falling short in Groh's final game.
"It's sad to see him go like this," defensive end Nate Collins, one of six captains on this year's team, said afterward. "I know me and the seniors talked this week, and we were just doing everything we could to get this win for him and for the coaches, because none of the coaches know what their futures are going to be like after this game. It's just tough.
"I hope the best for Coach Groh. I love Coach Groh like he's a father, and he's been a father figure to everyone here, and I don't think anyone can really say otherwise."
Groh began his postgame press conference with these words: "We made a pretty good go of it for a little while."
He was talking about the game, but he might as well have been talking about his time at Virginia.

A Pierce County manhunt is now under way after four Lakewood Police officers were shot and killed execution-style today in the Parkland area.

Sgt. Ed Troyer, Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman, said all available officers are combing several potential crime scenes, including one on Pacific Highway where a suspect’s pickup truck reportedly was abandoned.

According to The Associated Press, a gunman burst into a coffeehouse early Sunday and opened fire on four police officers as they sat working on their laptops, killing the three men and one woman in what an official described as a targeted ambush.

Troyer said officers were looking for one male suspect who fled on foot, but haven't ruled out an accomplice.

Troyer said the four officers killed — all from the Lakewood Police Department — were catching up on paperwork at the beginning of their shifts when they were attacked at 8:15 a.m. Sunday.

The News Tribune of Tacoma reports officers are looking for a single suspect, “described as a black male, 5-foot-8 to 5-9 and in his 20s or 30s. He had scruffy facial hair with a black coat and blue jeans. He used a handgun.”

Troyer said the attack was clearly targeted at the officers. He added that police are checking out reports that there might be another male involved, possibly a get-away driver.

In a later interview just before noon, Troyer would not speculate as to any motive, and said there was no threat or warning. He did, however, wonder if it might have been sparked by the recent news of violent attacks around the country, including the recent fatal attack on Seattle Police officer Timothy Brenton.
The Lakewood shootings took place at the Forza Coffee Shop near the McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, about 35 miles south of Seattle.

“We don’t have any threat, we don’t have any targeted people,” Troyer told reporters, having no answer to the question of why the officers were singled out.”Chances are there is not going to be a good answer. There is not an answer that makes any sense.”

Tiger Woods 911 Call to be Released Today

A recording of a 911 call from Tiger Woods’ accident will be released today, a Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman said in an e-mail to the news media Sunday morning.
The call was placed at 2:28 a.m. Friday by one of Mr. Woods’ neighbors who had been awakened by the sound of the superstar golfer’s SUV slamming a fire hydrant and tree, according to police. Police aren’t expected to release the identity of the caller.

The Florida Highway Patrol also said Sunday morning that crash investigators will interview Mr. Woods at his home Sunday at some time after 3 p.m. Investigators had been expected to visit Sunday morning after being turned away at Mr. Woods’ home on Saturday and Friday afternoon.
Public silence from Mr. Woods and his wife, Elin, has driven speculation about the circumstances of the accident. Members of the media and others have questioned why he left his home at that time of the morning and wondered about the severity of his injuries, among other things.

It's never easy being a fantasy owner this time of year, and it's because of players like Michael Turner.

Michael Turner, RB, Atlanta FalconsTurner, who missed last week's game due to a high ankle sprain, has practiced this week and will be a game-time decision, according to Falcons' coach Mike Smith. Smith said that Turner's status for Week 12's game against Tampa Bay will "come down to the wire."

Further complicating matters is that Jerious Norwood, who hasn't played since Week 6 because of a sore hip, has also practiced this week and is expected to play this Sunday.

So, what does all this mean for Jason Snelling?

It means you shouldn't count on him as more than a flex. Chances are, he'll get the most carries even if all three backs are active, and against Tampa's 32nd-ranked run defense, that makes him a solid play. If Turner is out, then upgrade Snelling to an RB2. Turner is a flex if he plays, and Norwood shouldn't be used unless you're desperate. You just can't count on any of these guys getting more than 12 touches. ...

Turner isn't the only big-name back who will be a game-time decision on Sunday.

Cedric Benson (hip), who missed last week's game, reportedly has a "slight" chance of playing against the Browns this week. Benson hasn't practiced all week. It looks like Bernard Scott will once again be a good RB2 play. Even if Benson is active, Scott will likely get the majority of the RB touches against Cleveland's 29th-ranked run defense. However, Brian Leonard or Benson (if active) will likely see carries inside the five. ...

Steven Jackson (back) has not practiced this week, but the Rams seem optimistic that he'll be ready for Sunday's game against Seattle. Coach Steve Spagnuolo had this to say about Jackson: "Yeah, Steven's a warrior," Spagnuolo told reporters Thursday. "Now, he's not there yet and there's still a little bit of spasm there. We don’t want to take any chances, so he hasn't practiced. I guess it could go either way. But I guess I'm thinking positive because of who he is and the way he's been." Check back for updates. Kenneth Darby and Samkon Gado would likely split carries for St. Louis if Jackson can't go. Neither are good fantasy plays. ...

He grew up with his first invention being “Spray-on Shoes” which unfortunately caught his foot for life, and has resulted in people who already make fun of him at a young age. As he grows the rest of his experiments seem a disadvantage to them as well as “The Flying Car”, a television with legs, and “ratbirds.” Flint believes he is a failure, but his mother, Fran Lock (Lauren Graham) always believed he could succeed. She died later, but without him, with his father, Tim Lock (James Caan). Flint lived in a small island town called Swallow Falls, hidden under the “N” in the “Atlantic”, which is known for the sardine. However, when the town’s economy, it’s the town in tough times, left, left sardines as the only food in Swallow Falls. Flint eventually come up with an invention that converts water into the food called Flint Lock Diatonic mute Super Dynamic Food Replicator (FLDSMDFR for short), but he did not have enough electricity to work. Tim Flint’s new discovery failure and suggested he should stop working on experiments to work with him in his fish store. But the next day, after she finishes Flint unpleasant shift, he and his pet monkey, Steve (Neil Patrick Harris), who communicates with an idea of a translator, tried to control the machine using the power station. Meanwhile, the Mayor Shelbourne (Bruce Campbell) along with “Baby” Brent (Andy Samberg), the city had sardine celebrity mascot and Flint’s school bully, make a new theme park called Sardines Land, in the hope that it will widely recognized. She was a “nerd” for the weather, and she had her hair back and wore big glasses. She changed her look later in life to get away from criticism, but Flint is holding her the way she is, and Sam agrees to go out in public with the look after he gets her to put her glasses and tie her hair back. Right before leaving, Flint nervously (and awkwardly) tries to kiss Sam, but get interrupted by a phone call. Flint, realize it’s the only time people were not scolding him for an attacker, orders spaghetti the next day’s menu for the tourist’s arrival in the village at the grand re-opening. But nowin the air , FLDSMDFR mold grows on itself, and an eye appears on his screen.Then the next day at the town’s grand re-opening the spaghetti shape of a crook, that provethe food begins to mutate. Flint will disable the FLDSMDFR, but the mayor is seen ordering a Vegas-style buffet, and accidentally destroyed thecommunications device . Sam, with the help of her computer trying to warn the world through the news that a life threatening food storm will strike, but they lost herin the air at first for her “nerdy” look. Luckily she gets re-aired and warn everyone about the events that could destroy the world. Flint gives to believe he really is a failure , but his father finally speaks to him and encourage him to town to save it. Flint put a dead code in a USB Drive will build “The Flying Car 2 with wings” and Steve, Sam, Manny, and “Baby” Brent (Brent goes along trying to find a new “self esteem” since his old one was destroyed when Flint became known) gives a chasing after the FLDSMDFR, while residents and tourists to build boats to sandwich escape the sea.The FLDSMDFR formed a giant meatball around him, and Flint, Sam and Brent enter the meatball, while Manny and Steve stayed behind in the car. Flint loses the USB Drive on the road and asked his father’s death to send code to his phone. Tim hesitantly enters Flint’s laboratory, and has trouble following through with what Flint told him. While sending him to kill the code, Mount Leftovers closed deck the town with massive amounts of food, and it appears that Tim was bruised, but he successfully pull him out and send the code to death Flint’s phone. Flint, Brent, and Sam will uncover sentient food that a major mutations had undergone to protect against the FLDSMDFR on their own, and fight their way through giant man eating fried chickens. Brent is apparently eaten by one, but is able to control the chicken and the rest fight like his new self, “Chicken” Brent. Sam Flint and then heads off alone, but must leave Sam Flint after an allergic reaction to peanut brittle. Now alone, the Flint encounters FLDSMDFR, while Brent and Sam escaped with Manny and Steve. Flint jam the telephone inthe machine to release the code, but it seems that Tim had sent him the wrong document, the video of the kitten and ducklings singing “Fight the Power”. FLDSMDFR The fight back physically, but Flint coversthe food production gap Spray with its spray-on Shoes. FLDSMDFR The meatball and exploded, and the few clouds over the world disappear. Swiss voters' clear decision on Sunday to ban the construction of minarets has generated a wide range of emotions, from stunned joy to rueful concern.

Supporters of the initiative said the Swiss electorate wanted to put a brake on the Islamicisation of their country, whereas opponents were concerned about the violation of rights, not to mention an international backlash and possible boycott of Swiss products.

"Forced marriages and other things like cemeteries separating the pure and impure – we don't have that in Switzerland and we don't want to introduce it," said Ulrich Schlüer, co-president of the Initiative Committee to ban minarets.

Oskar Freysinger, a member of the rightwing Swiss People's Party and a driving force in the campaign, said he was "stunned and dumbfounded" by Sunday's result "since the entire establishment was against us".

"I would like to say to all the Muslims listening that this will in no way change their right to practise their religion, to pray or to gather [in mosques]," he said. "However, society wants to put a safeguard on the political-legal wing of Islam, for which there is no separation between state and religion."

The president of the People's Party, Toni Brunner, said voters had clearly rejected the idea of parallel societies and the further expansion of Islam – including radical, political Islam – in Switzerland.

According to final results, 57.5 per cent of voters and a majority of cantons backed the initiative – up from 34 per cent last month. Turnout was high at around 55 per cent.

Brunner said people who settled here had to realise that they couldn't turn up to work in a head scarf or get special dispensation from swimming lessons.

Government reaction

The government said in a statement it respected the decision.
For Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf, the outcome reflected fears among the population of Islamic fundamentalist tendencies, "which reject our national traditions and which could disregard our legal order".
"These concerns have to be taken seriously. The government has always done so and will continue to do so in future. However, we take the view that a ban on the construction of new minarets is not a feasible means of countering extremist tendencies," she said.
Widmer-Schlumpf underlined that Sunday's vote was only directed against the construction of new minarets. "It is not a rejection of the Muslim community, religion or culture. Of that the government gives its assurance."

"Switzerland has lost"

Nevertheless, Saida Keller-Messahli, president of the Forum for an Advanced Islam, said the public's fears had been too great and "hatred had won over reason".

She said there would now be legal consequences, since the ban violated the freedom of religion.
The Federation of Islamic Organisations in Switzerland also regretted the result, saying the propaganda of the campaign supporters had succeeded in frightening the majority of voters.

The federation said it was too soon to judge the negative social and legal consequences – what was important now was to strengthen their public relations and clear up any misunderstandings or prejudices concerning Islam.

"Switzerland has lost," said Rifa'at Lenzin from the European Project for Interreligious Learning in Zurich, adding that the country was "leading the way" for Islamophobia.

Lenzin was only partly surprised by the result, "which corresponds to the current mood". She said she was astonished, however, that the "subjective and far-fetched arguments" of the minaret opponents had found such great support.

She added that the opponents of the initiative had completely underestimated the situation and that the political parties had been asleep, with only the centre-right Radical Party actively campaigning. The public spaces had been dominated by the campaign supporters, she said.

Swiss values

Reinhard Schulze, a professor of Islamic studies at Bern University, said he was "very surprised" by the acceptance of the initiative.

He described the result as a "turning point", in that after many years of going in the other direction, voters had once again spoken for an unequal treatment of faiths.

"The next thing is obviously to look at how this plays with international law," he said, adding that he could already envisage complaints from the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

The Council of Religions, a body comprising Christian churches, Jews and Muslims, said in a statement it regretted the result. People of all faiths must work together even harder, it said, for the respect of rights of freedom, for dialogue with the Muslim community and for integration.
"These are values that make Switzerland strong," it said.

Swiss image abroad

Looking at political reaction, the centre-left Social Democratic Party warned in a statement against the exclusion of Muslims in Switzerland.
"The yes vote was probably the result of a diffuse fear of a religious minority," it said.
This fear must be taken seriously, it added, but it must not be misinterpreted as a vote of mistrust against all Muslims living in Switzerland.
The Democratic Party said it was also concerned about Switzerland's image abroad, saying that a foreign ministry offensive was clearly necessary, along with stronger integration efforts at all state levels.
Jacques Neyrinck from the centre-right Christian Democratic Party stressed that Switzerland would be the only country in the world to ban the construction of minarets.
"Switzerland is heading straight for a battle with Islam," he said, adding that he feared a boycott of Swiss products.

"Dirty campaign"

The four minarets already attached to mosques in the country are not affected by the initiative, and the president of the Islamic community in Langenthal, canton Bern, assumed his organisation would be able to add a minaret to their mosque since it had already been approved.

Mutalip Karaademi said he was disappointed by the strong level of support and the "dirty campaign", describing Muslims and Islamists and terrorists.
But Langenthal mayor Thomas Rufener, from the People's Party, said he didn't think the minaret would be built "for political reasons".

The Commonwealth's bloc of 50-plus nations has thrown its support behind a climate change declaration ahead of the United Nations summit in Copenhagen.
Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, who helped draw up the three-page document, said the consensus reached at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) underway in Trinidad and Tobago is a "significant step forward" to securing a comprehensive agreement in Copenhagen.
The declaration is supported by India, Britain and Bangladesh and other populous Commonwealth nations that account for one-third of the world's population as well as tiny countries including Kiribati and Maldives.
The Commonwealth Climate Change Declaration does not set emission targets or commitments.
It calls for "an internationally legally binding agreement" to be hatched in Copenhagen and recognises "the need for an early peaking year for global emissions".
"In Copenhagen we commit to focus our efforts on achieving the strongest possible outcome," the declaration states.
Rudd, speaking at a CHOGM press conference with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen to announce the declaration, said targets and commitments will be worked on ahead of the Copenhagen summit, set to begin on December 7.

"Those negotiations continue," Rudd told reporters.
"Progress has been made.
"You see as each day passes a large number of states coming forward with their own national commitments."
The declaration also won the support of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, who has refused to commit Canada to any specific, short-term strategy to cut greenhouse gases.
The three non-Commonwealth leaders - Rasmussen, Ban and French President Nicholas Sarkozy - have been high-profile faces at CHOGM, engaging in closed door meetings to drum up support for a binding emissions treaty to be signed in Copenhagen.
The trio views the support of the influential bloc of Commonwealth states as key ahead of Copenhagen.
"There is still some hard work to be done from now towards Copenhagen, but I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the Commonwealth leaders stated ... the need for an early peaking year for global emissions ... that means developed countries will have to move fast," Rasmussen said at the press conference.
Rudd also pointed to the declaration's support for a $US10 billion fast start fund proposed on Friday at CHOGM by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Rudd said the fund is the "breakthrough" piece of the document.
The fund is designed to help countries most vulnerable to climate change.
The Australian prime minister will meet with US President Barack Obama on Monday in Washington DC, with climate change on the agenda.
Rudd said the consensus reached by the Commonwealth should ring in the ears of other nations.
"That single voice is saying to the world that we, as the Commonwealth representing one-third of the world's population, believe the time for action on climate change has come," Rudd said.
"The clock is ticking with Copenhagen.
"We have achieved one-third of a significant step forward with this communique and we believe that the political goodwill and resolve exists to secure a comprehensive agreement at Copenhagen."

LA Times sports writer Mike Penner dead at 52

Los Angeles Times sports writer Mike Penner, who announced two years ago he was a transsexual and was changing his name to Christine Daniels, has died at age 52, the newspaper reported Saturday.
Penner was pronounced dead Friday at a hospital, said Los Angeles County coroner's Lt. Brian Elias. He said coroner's officials hadn't yet performed an autopsy or issued an official cause of death.
The Times said in a story Saturday Penner was believed to have committed suicide. Penner had returned to using the name Mike Penner last year and was a Times columnist at the time of his death.
In 25 years with the newspaper, Penner covered Major League Baseball, the National Football League, the Olympics, World Cup soccer, tennis and other sports. A fluid writer with a sharp wit, he worked at various times as a reporter, columnist and the newspaper's Los Angeles Angels beat writer.
"Mike was one of the most talented writers I've ever worked with, capable of reporting on any number of topics with great wit and style. He was a very gentle man who will be greatly missed. This is a tragic ending and a difficult time for all of us who knew him," said Times Sports Editor Mike James.
Times Editor Russ Stanton said Penner "respected our readers a great deal, enough to share with them his very personal journey."
Penner revealed that journey on April 26, 2007, when he wrote a story for the Times headlined "Old Mike, New Christine," in which he revealed he was taking a few weeks vacation and when he returned to his job as a sports writer it would be as a woman named Christine Daniels.
"I am a transsexual sports writer," Penner wrote. "It has taken more than 40 years, a million tears and hundreds of hours of soul-wrenching therapy for me to work up the courage to type those words."
The announcement sent shock waves through the sports world, but Penner's bosses were supportive.
As Penner himself noted, when he revealed his plans to Times Associate Editor Randy Harvey, who was then the newspaper's sports editor, Harvey "leaned back in his chair, looked through his office window to scan the newsroom and mused, 'Well, no one can ever say we don't have diversity on this staff.'"
After his vacation, Penner did indeed return as Christine Daniels, not only continuing to report on sports for the Times but also authoring a blog called "Woman in Transition," detailing his experiences.
Making public the transition, he once said, was the hardest thing he had ever done.
"How do you go about sharing your most important truth, one you spent a lifetime trying to keep deeply buried, to a world that has grown familiar and comfortable with your facade?" he asked.
At the time of his announcement he was married, and he declined to discuss his family situation. He said he was undergoing female hormone treatments but declined to say whether he planned to undergo a sex-change operation.
However, he eventually dropped the "Woman in Transition" blog and returned to writing under the name Mike Penner.
At the time of his death he was writing a column for the Times called Totally Random that focused on offbeat, lighthearted and historic moments in sports. His last one appeared in the paper on Nov. 15.

AUBURN — A rough Iron Bowl got worse for Alabama tailback Mark Ingram, who sustained a hip pointer in the fourth quarter that took him out for the end of the Crimson Tide's game-winning drive.

What to expect: Maybe lots of points, considering these are the two worst defenses in the Pac-10, both in terms of yards allowed and points scored — UW ninth in each category, WSU 10th. Louisville coach Steve Kragthorpe was fired today by Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich, a person with knowledge of Jurich's decision told FanHouse.

Jurich has called a noon press conference to "address the future of the Cardinals' football program."

Kragthorpe was 15-21 in three seasons at Louisville. The Cardinals finished 4-8 (1-6 in the Big East) this season, their second consecutive losing season under Kragthorpe.

Because of Jurich's ties to the Mountain West Conference – he was athletic director at Colorado State before coming to Louisville – possible replacements include TCU's Gary Patterson and Utah's Kyle Whittingham. Other possibilities include Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong and Houston's Kevin Sumlin. Past media reports also have mentioned Texas Tech's Mike Leach and former Tampa Bay Bucs coach/current ESPN analyst Jon Gruden as likely candidates.

In January 2007, Kragthorpe replaced Bobby Petrino, but was unable to match the success UL had under Petrino, which included the 2006 Big East and Orange Bowl championship. Kragthorpe's best season at UL was his first in 2007, when the Cardinals went 6-6 but did not receive a bowl bid.

After Saturday's 34-14 loss to Rutgers, Kragthorpe was asked about his future. Kragthorpe, who has two years remaining on his contract that pays about $1.1 million a year, said he expected to return.

"I don't think we're that far away," Kragthorpe said. "It's frustrating for everyone. As frustrated as the fans are, I'm as equally or more frustrated. We're on track. Hopefully I'll get another year.

"I want to be here and be the guy that gets this thing back to where we need to be. I think this thing is close to us winning eight or nine games without a doubt."

Because of the Cardinals' struggles, two of Louisville's final three home games had the smallest crowds in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium history. The Oct. 31 game against Arkansas State drew 21,497, the smallest in the stadium's 11-year history and Saturday's loss to Rutgers drew 23,422, the second-smallest.

Louisville is in the midst of expanding its stadium from 42,000 to 55,000 and it's scheduled to be completed in 2010.

Kragthorpe came to Louisville after three seasons at Tulsa, where he was 29-22 and won the Conference USA title in 2005.

"You're miserable when you don't win games," Kragthorpe said on Monday about his job status. "Ultimately that's how you're judged as a head coach.

"I know how this thing works as a head coach. We haven't won enough football games right now."

World leaders spruik climate deal chances

Hopes for a new global climate pact have risen after rich nations at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Trinidad and Tobago offered to help poorer countries bear the costs of implementing any deal.

Commonwealth countries are home to two billion people, or a third of the planet's population - including major global players like Britain and India, and smaller island states like Nauru and the Maldives.

The United Nations secretary-general Ban Ki-moon, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen joined 53 Commonwealth leaders to work on the issue of climate change ahead of next month's conference in Copenhagen.

"Success in Copenhagen is in sight," UN chief Ban Ki-moon told the summit.

He and Mr Rasmussen praised a move by Britain and France to launch a multi-billion-dollar fund for developing nations.

Mr Rasmussen said it was now "realistic" to expect Copenhagen to result in the framework for a treaty to succeed the Kyoto Protocol which expires in 2012.

But he stressed the deal to be hammered out by some 87 leaders including US President Barack Obama must include "commitments, numbers and precise language".

Mr Ban, who has led the push towards Copenhagen, agreed it must not become just another talking shop, saying, "We will come out with a very concrete foundation for a legally binding treaty."

The need to address a changing climate was a point reinforced by Queen Elizabeth at this morning's opening ceremony.

"The Commonwealth can be proud of the fact that in each of its six decades it has shaped the international response to emerging global challenges," she told the gathered leaders.

"And on this, the eve of the UN Copenhagen summit on climate change, the Commonwealth has an opportunity to lead once more."

The Queen told the summit that many of those most vulnerable to the effects of climate change lived in Commonwealth countries.

"The threat to our environment is not a new concern but it is now a global challenge which will continue to affect the security and stability of millions for years to come," she said.

Canada singled out

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper faced growing international pressure to take action, with some activists even calling for Canada to be suspended from the Commonwealth.

Mr Ban singled out Canada at the Commonwealth summit, saying Ottawa should act as soon as possible to create an ambitious target to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

He said given that Canada is hosting the G8 and G20 meetings next June, it should be setting an example.

The International Energy Agency ranks Canada alongside Australia in the world's top 5 per cent of polluters, per capita, yet Ottawa still has no policy to combat climate change.

Mr Harper has now reversed his earlier position and says he will attend the climate talks in Copenhagen.

Momentum builds

Much of the new momentum for a climate deal stemmed from a joint overture by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Mr Sarkozy.

The two European leaders proposed to compensate developing countries for the economic disadvantages they would face in cutting carbon emissions.

"Poorer countries must have an understanding that the richer countries will help them adapt to climate change and make the necessary adjustments in their economies," Mr Brown said on his website.

For the first time, India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said he was willing to commit his country to ambitious global carbon emission cuts, provided others shared the burden.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd also welcomed what he called "a fast-start fund".

"Australia is of the view that such a fast-start fund can assist in bringing about a good outcome at Copenhagen, but most critically, assist those most vulnerable states dealing with adaptation challenges now," he said.

TMZ Alleges Tiger Woods' Injuries Caused by Wife, Not Car

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Multiple law enforcement sources tell TMZ that Tiger Woods' early morning accident came right after an argument with his wife, Elin Nordegren.(Read More at TMZ.com)

FOX 35 has not confirmed any details as to the cause of the accident. A spokesperson with the Florida Highway Patrol tells FOX 35 that troopers went to the hospital to speak to Woods, but he had already been released, so they drove to his house.

When they arrived at Woods' home, they were told by his wife that he was sleeping. They mutually agreed with his wife not to wake him. The spokesperson said that they wanted to make sure a person is "coherent and awake" when conducting an interview.

When asked if Woods had received any preferential treatment, the FHP spokesperson said he is not being treated any differently than anyone else, adding that investigators would return on Saturday to talk to Woods.

There was no blood alcohol test done, though on the report it specifies "No" under the "Alcohol Related?" field. Investigators said they did not suspect alcohol was involved and had to have probable cause to draw blood.

FOX 35 has placed a request to receive the 911 call reporting the accident. Before it can be released, it must first be first be examined by the FHP, according to authorities.

But, still, Billick to South Bend? At first blush and with very little in-depth consideration behind it, it would seem highly unlikely that Billick would even be a periphery candidate let alone a "viable" one.

Woods was reportedly taken to Health Central Hospital in Ocoee.

The makers of the Roku digital video player announced a special Black Friday offer on the company’s HD-XR Player, a Netflix streaming appliance that is Wi-Fi enabled and can also play high definition (HD) video. The offer begins at 11 a.m. EST (8 a.m. PST) and is only available to the first 500 customers who visit the site. The device, which normally retails for $129.99, will be available for $65, including free shipping. The XR is also notable because it includes the fastest Wi-Fi on the market, wireless N.

In October, the company announced the release of the HD-XR as well as the Roku SD player, retailing for $79.99. The addition of these two models expands the family of players to three; the original $99.99 Roku HD player debuted in 2008. All players stream video from Netflix, Amazon’s Video On Demand service and MLB.TV. Roku is also offering free shipping on all Roku devices if purchased through Amazon.com or the company’s Web site.

It comes with its own remote control and includes all the cables required to connect to a standard television. The Roku players feature composite, S-video, and component video outputs, stereo and optical audio outputs and HDMI integrated audio and video connections. Roku claims the devices, which are about the size of a jewelry box, take only five minutes to set up.

The Roku SD player connects to the TV using the included yellow-red-white video/audio cable and incorporates the aforementioned Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) technology and an Ethernet port for broadband connectivity. The Roku HD and HD-XR players feature high definition (HD) streaming capability, connecting to any TV using HDMI or component video (both products also include S-video or Composite video outputs as well). The Roku HD-XR adds the latest Wi-Fi standard, 802.11n dual-band and works with legacy routers. Roku notes the HD-XR player also includes a USB port for future use.

Recently the company also announced the Roku Channel store, which offers free channels such as Twit.tv, Facebook Photos, Flickr, Pandora Internet Radio, Blip.tv and FrameChannel. The company said many other developers are working on Roku Channels now and they expect additional developers to adopt the Roku platform over time. New channels will appear in the Roku Channel Store automatically as they become available, Roku stated in a company release.

All Roku players, including the Roku SD, Roku HD and Roku HD-XR models, are compatible with the Roku Channel Store, and Store will be delivered as an automatic and free upgrade to all existing Roku customers over the course of the next two weeks, the company claimed. Black Friday online 2009 - Discounters were doing well early Black Friday morning, with door-busters bringing in big crowds, while higher-end and some apparel retailers were seeing somewhat muted traffic despite big discounts.

Mass merchants like Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Target Corp., as well as lower-end department stores like J.C. Penney Co. and electronics retailer Best Buy Inc., saw strong demand for big sales items, with electronics an early winner. But there was some robust demand for tougher-sell items like cookware and jewelry.

"I know what I want and the prices I'm willing to pay," said Winifred Tyson, who was carrying a couple of bags full of clothing and cooking gear at Penney's new Manhattan store.

Just a block away, though, there was less holiday zeal at Macy's Inc., the early sales of which brought customers in, but not as many as the store expected, several salespeople in different departments said. One employee cited the recession and online competition.

While still very early in the holiday season, the more modestly priced stores seem to be seeing robust demand, while more mid-tier and upper-end are having a slower go of it.

"Most people are here to get the compelling door busters and traffic has significantly died as those have sold out," said Lisa Walters, principal at Retail Eye Partners, a retail research firm.

"Consumers are very, very price savvy this year," said Ms. Walters, who has been shopping in malls and free-standing stores in Albany, N.Y., since the early morning. "People are really targeting their spending, and the big question is whether we can see follow-through."

Shoppers were out in force at the Secaucus, N.J., Wal-Mart loading carts with everything from everyday potholders to supersize flat-screen televisions.

Nandini Ramkissoon of Brooklyn, N.Y., was shopping with her family and leaving the store shortly after 5 a.m. with three large-screen Sony Bravia TVs—40-inch, 46-inch and 52-inch models—and a blue-ray disc player, all for about $3,000. The family arrived at the store at 6:30 p.m. Thanksgiving Day and spent the night roaming the store to ensure they nabbed their "really, really cheap" bargains.

Yuberkys Pietrera and her family were also overnighters, having arrived at 8:30 p.m. to make sure she got an Hewlett-Packard laptop for $298 compared with a normal "500-something."

Ms. Pietrera called her first foray into Black Friday shopping "very enjoyable."

The Secaucus Wal-Mart, like others in the chain, was open all night to avoid massive stampedes for bargains like the one that marred last year's Black Friday, when an employee at a Wal-Mart on Long Island was trampled to death.

Josh Strudl, co-manager at the Secaucus branch said traffic had been heavy, and he was anticipating a "very good day." Around 40 local law enforcement officers were on hand to help with crowd control and an employee was outside with a bullhorn directing shoppers to the correct entrance and warning to watch out for parking lot traffic.

Next door at Sam's Club, Wal-Mart's club arm, shopping was considerably more subdued.

Michelle Reyes said she and her family decided to avoid the Wal-Mart and see if Sam's had deals that would make getting membership worth avoiding the Wal-Mart.

"We were going into Wal-Mart, but there were 2,000 people there," she said.

Allyson Tierney, team leader for Sam's jewelry kiosk, said sales for the year had been so-so, but the deals for Black Friday on smaller pieces ranging from $99 to $299 were sold out before 6 a.m.

Norma Pacheco, club manager, said Sam's opened at 5 a.m. and they were seeing heavier-than-normal traffic, with 32-inch and 36-inch flat-screen TVs big sellers.

In Humble, Texas, Frank Delgado, manager of the super Target said store traffic was much stronger than expected and significantly better than last year in the first 45 minutes from opening.

As expected, electronics sales appeared strong and clothing is doing well, too. Mr. Delgado said people appeared to be doing their Christmas shopping, pointing to multiple customers with more than one TV in their carts. He attributed the bustling traffic to leaner inventories this year.

Retailers are offering extended hours and great deals. Will it be enough to get wary consumers, battered by the financial crisis, to crack open their wallets? Doug Luzader of Fox News reports.

"Customers are hearing our inventories aren't as deep this year and realizing these must-have items may not be here two weeks before Christmas," he said.

He also said sales all week have been stronger than expected, and compared with the past three years, customers are shopping earlier. Hot items were cameras and 40- and 32-inch TVs.

In North Charlotte, N.C., deals on laptops prompted Ray Choate Jr. and his girlfriend Krystal Rich to wait nine hours in the cold at a Best Buy.

"I've never come out" for Black Friday deals before, said Mr. Choate, who expected to drop close to $800 on laptops for his sister and aunt and a Garmin GPS device.

"They seem like really good deals," he said. The big-ticket electronics meant Mr. Choate was likely to spend more this year than last, he said.

The Best Buy had a few hundred people in line for the 5 a.m. opening, but by 5:20 there was no line to get in. The biggest crowds were in the computer and camera departments.

Michael Cruz of Charlotte, a veteran of Black Friday shopping, said deals this year don't seem as good as last year. Mr. Cruz, recently unemployed from his job in banking as a result of mergers, nonetheless bought a Sony laptop that he figures he'll need once he finds a job.

"You just can't beat the door-buster prices," he said. He plans to spend less this holiday season than last year. While he's skeptical deals will get a lot better closer to Christmas, he offered no suggestion for retailers hoping to entice him to spend. "I'm not buying a lot of extras this year," he said.

Laura Mabbitt of Huntersville, N.C., also said deals on computers and other electronics don't seem as good as last year. She, too, plans to spend less this year. "I'm in a brand-new company and it's just getting off the ground," she said. "It's a little scary."

Major retailers including Target, J.C. Penney and Best Buy have been cranking up promotions to avoid a slump after Black Friday and keep customers shopping through what promises to be a difficult season.

The weak economy and growing clout of online sellers is upending carefully calculated promotions and positioning retailers' Web sites as the frontline in this year's competition.

Amazon.com Inc. joined the fray with a "Black Friday Deals Week" which began Monday with a host of limited-time deals. Executives at the largest online retailer by revenue also promised to scour competitors' Black Friday store specials and meet or beat their prices.

"You can get great Black Friday deals on Thanksgiving Day and on Black Friday on Amazon," said Paul Ryder, Amazon's vice president of consumer electronics, adding, "When it is three in the morning and you are thinking about getting up" to join a Black Friday queue at a store, Amazon hopes users go online.

The competition for Web shoppers accelerated this week when most major retailers began Black Friday-style sales online, betting that many would rather click for deals on Thanksgiving than wake up before dawn and head to stores in search of door-busters the following day.

"Extending the length of the promotional season makes perfect sense, because when you look at what people buy in these early door-buster sales, it's usually something for themselves," said Paul Leinwand, a vice president in the retail practice at consultancy Booz & Co. "There is a lot of pent-up demand for personal purchases right now. It doesn't compete with the gift shopping, which comes later."

The proliferation of online specials before Black Friday, which also included special one-day deals from Wal-Mart Stores Inc., underscores retailers' anxiety at forecasts this holiday season could be the second year in a row of declining sales. Polls of retailers also indicate more are advancing promotions once scheduled for late December.

By Thanksgiving, dozens of retailers were dangling special offers on their Web sites, though not all were identical to what could be found Friday in stores.

Target kicked off a special Thanksgiving Day sale online this year for the first time, trumpeting, "The dishes can wait. The deals can't." It was selling the latest 32-gigabyte version of the iPod Touch for $269.99, $30 cheaper than Apple Inc.'s online store. The one-day deals were separate from a promotion the retailer was planning to begin Friday.

Clothing chain J.Crew Group Inc. was boasting, "No crowds. No lines. No hassles." in an e-mail to customers promoting its early sale, while Pottery Barn Kids also touted "Black Friday Savings" in a one-day sale Thursday that was set to expire at midnight.

With bright sunlight glinting off it, the shuttle swooped through a clear sky and landed on the runway right on time. Mission Control said no one could remember such welcoming conditions; there were no clouds in sight for Atlantis' midmorning arrival, and the temperature was in the 50s.
"Couldn't have picked a clearer day," commander Charles Hobaugh said. Mission Control congratulated him on a "picture perfect" landing.
It was an especially sweet homecoming for two of the crew.

Astronaut Nicole Stott was away for three months, living at the space station. Fellow crew member Randolph Bresnik's baby daughter was born last weekend.
"Everybody, welcome back to Earth, especially you, Nicole," Mission Control radioed.
Hobaugh and his crew spent a week stockpiling the space station. They delivered big spare parts and performed three spacewalks to install equipment and carry out maintenance.
The pumps, gyroscopes and storage tanks should keep the outpost in business for another five to 10 years, long after Atlantis and the two other shuttles are retired.

A line of about 50 people formed outside the Staples at Steelyard Commons before the store opened at 6 a.m. But, no crowd control was needed. People just strolled into the stores and glanced around at the specials.

Several people said they came to Staples because they didn't want to deal with the crowds a the bigger box stores like Wal-Mart and Target.

"I thought about going to Target," said Don Reinhardt of Fairview Park. "But, when I saw the line, I said no way."

He was in the store looking for computer equipment for work and was able to snag a couple of computer monitors for $89 a piece. They usually retailed for around $200.

Later, at nearby Old Navy, shoppers were not looking for big ticket items. Instead they were scooping up sweaters and fleeces for $5 a piece where the check-out line stretched across the store.

Cassandra Indries of North Ridgeville said she stopped into Old Navy before going to work. She bought several fleeces as Christmas presents. "It's a good deal, you can't beat it," she said.

Indries said she didn't know she was going to have to wait nearly an hour to check out. When asked if it was worth it she said "not really, but I am here already."

Washington Wizard Owner Abe Pollin dies

Abe Pollin health was declining who was a real estate developer, philanthropist, and owner of the Washington Wizards and other sports teams, has died at 85, WRC-TV is reporting Pollin today is remembered most fondly as a sports team owner---the man who bought the Baltimore Bullets to Washington, brought NHL hockry to the city, women's pro basketball, and other sporting endeavors.

He presided over one world championship, the 1978 Bullets' NBA title.But he was also a crackerjack businessman, a developer who left his legacy across the region's landscape, in numerous apartment towers in Montgomery County and the District. His prime development legacy, let there be no doubt about it, will be the MCI Center, which Pollin built out of his own pocket while the city suffered from crippling financial woes and went on to anchor the rebirth of downtown Washington.

Though well known as a hellish negotiator, Pollin was generous with his riches, donating heavily to Jewish causes (he helped save the Sixth & I Synagogue, for instance) and, among other good works, paying for an entire elementary-school class to go to college.

The cause of Pollin's death is yet unconfirmed [WaPo reports that Pollin suffered from corticobasal degeneration for several years], though he had appeared frail in rare public appearances in recent years and several news outlets are reporting that he suffered from a rare brain malady. ESPN.com reports this comment from the July 2008 re-signing announcement for Antawn Jamison: "I'm getting a little old and a little sick....But I'm still around, and I'm going to be around until we win the...championship. I'm stubborn and hardheaded."

The Washington Post writes:

Pollin was among the last of the old-school pro sports owners who ran his teams as a family business, shaped by his strong personality and his intense loyalties. His teams lost more than they won, and fans often criticized his personnel moves and his failure to spend more money, but Pollin invariably remained set in his ways.

He was also a major philanthropist in the community, paying for affordable housing and endowing a local Boy's and Girl's Club. His grandest project was building the MCI Center (now Verizon Center) in 1997 and triggering a stunning renaissance of Gallery Place and surrounding neighborhoods.

WRC-TV's Lindsay Czarniak interviewed Pollin's beloved wife Irene last month:

I saw him at a game recently, must have been a hockey game. He was not in good shape. I don't know that he recognized me; he was definitely on the downswing. But they had a special place for him in the box....

Jemal...recalled Pollin as a wonderful man and a business icon who did things the old school way.

"I knew him very well and spent a lot of years with him down here when he was building the Verizon Center. And I can tell you when the Verizon Center was being built, he was down here every day monitoring construction," Jemal said.

One day, when a worker on one of Jemal's buildings had a construction accident, Pollin was there to help, Jemal said. "He came running across the street to see what he could do."

Pollin represented a now gone era of "independent, old-school team owners" who cared about the city's where they did business. "I think that team was his life," Jemal said. He said that even when the team was not winning, "he would sit in that owners' box by himself and watch every time that team played."

Pollin will be remembered for several things. He was the NBA's longest tenured owner. He was the guy who fired Michael Jordan. And he was the person who changed the name of his team from the Bullets to the Wizards after his friend, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, was killed.

Convicted over the summer of taking five underage girls across state lines to have sex with them, evangelist Tony Alamo was today sentenced to 175 years in prison by a judge in Texarkana, Ark.

"May (God) have mercy on your soul," U.S. District Judge Harry Barnes told Alamo, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports.

Alamo, 75, is a one-time clothing entrepreneur. The victims testified they were taken as "child brides" by the evangelist.

Since man first touched the moon and brought pieces of it back to Earth, scientists have thought that the lunar surface was bone dry. But new observations from three different spacecraft have put this notion to rest with what has been called "unambiguous evidence" of water across the surface of the moon.

The new findings, detailed in the Sept. 25 issue of the journal Science, come in the wake of further evidence of lunar polar water ice by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter and just weeks before the planned lunar impact of NASA's LCROSS satellite, which will hit one of the permanently shadowed craters at the moon's south pole in hope of churning up evidence of water ice deposits in the debris field.

The moon remains drier than any desert on Earth, but the water is said to exist on the moon in very small quantities. One ton of the top layer of the lunar surface would hold about 32 ounces of water, researchers said.

"If the water molecules are as mobile as we think they are — even a fraction of them — they provide a mechanism for getting water to those permanently shadowed craters," said planetary geologist Carle Pieters of Brown University in Rhode Island, who led one of the three studies in Science on the lunar find, in a statement. "This opens a whole new avenue [of lunar research], but we have to understand the physics of it to utilize it."

Finding water on the moon would be a boon to possible future lunar bases, acting as a potential source of drinking water and fuel.

Oddly enough, studies have shown that crime and accidents somewhat decrease on Friday the 13th because people are alert.

Cambridge University physiologist Richard Wiseman has theorized that people who consider themselves to be unlucky are more likely to believe in superstitions like Friday the 13th.

More than 80 percent of highrises do not have a 13th floor. Many hotels and hospitals will not have a room 13, and in Florence, Italy, the house number between 12 and 14 is 12 1/2.

In some places in America, Friday the 13th Clubs were formed, in which the members only gather on Black Friday and decided to defy society's views by smashing mirrors, scattering salt, opening umbrellas inside and letting black cats out.

But why? Where did the superstition come from?

One theory suggests 12 is the most complete number. It occurs in common cultural references - 12 months in a year, signs of the Zodiac, labors of Hercules, tribes of Israel, gods of Olympus and apostles of Jesus Christ. Thus, 13 is considered irregular.

Friday has been considered unlucky, and therefore a bad day to start a new journey or project - stemming from the Canterbury Tales. Also, according to Christian scripture, Jesus was crucified on a Friday.

In the 13th century, the Knights Templar were arrested by King Philip in France on Friday the 13th.

Another belief comes from Norse mythology, in which Frigga, the goddess of love, was banished to a mountaintop and labeled a witch. Every Friday, Frigga would call 11 other witches to the top of the mountain to plot evils for those below. The 12 witches would gather with a 13th guest - the devil. Similarly, in Roman times, witches are said to have gathered in groups of 12 with the 13th member being the devil.

Another part of Norse mythology states 12 gods were gathered at dinner in heaven - Valhalla - when an uninvited 13th guest, the god of darkness, shot Balder, the god of joy and gladness. When Balder died, the world went dark, and from that moment 13 was considered ominous.

Likewise, in Christian scripture, there were 13 diners at the Last Supper, following which Jesus was killed. Many myths claim when 13 people dine together, ill fate awaits one of the diners.

There is no written evidence of a "Friday the 13th" superstition before the 19th century. The first written reference was in 1869 in the biography of Italian composer Gioachino Rossini. Generally, Italians separately regard Friday and 13 to be unlucky, but on Friday the 13th, Rossini died. Continue

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Target is hoping to lure this year's Black Friday shoppers with $3 toasters and coffeemakers, deep deals on high-definition televisions, and discounts of 50% on clothes and toys, according to a Web site that says it has received a leaked copy of the retailer's circular.

Brad Olson, founder of Gottadeal.com, a Web site that markets itself as one of many "official" Black Friday deal sites, said Wednesday that he received a copy of the discount retailer's ad.

For competitive reasons, most merchants typically keep a tight lid on their promotions for Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, until a week before.

Olson, who's been tracking annual Black Friday deals from Wal-Mart (WMT, Fortune 500), Target (TGT, Fortune 500), Sears (S, Fortune 500) and other chain stores for the past six years, said Target's deals look "pretty aggressive" this year.

That's not particularly surprising given that the past 10 months have been a sales nightmare for most merchants.

Given that trend, sellers need to start the holiday shopping season -- their most important sales period of a year -- with a bang.

The November-December gift-buying period can account for 50% or more of sellers' annual profits and sales.

Olson said Target's Black Friday "doorbuster" deals, or the extra juicy sales given for a limited time to early shoppers, look very attractive.

These include a Westinghouse 32-inch LCD HDTV for $246. "The $246 HDTV is the lowest price that we've ever seen for that model," said Olsen.

Also in the ad: $3 Chefmate appliances such as toasters, coffeemakers and sandwich makers; a 40-inch Apex 1080p LCD HDTV for $449 with a $10 gift card; a TomTom GPS for $97; a Garmin GPS for $179; an RCA dual-screen portable DVD player for $88; a $39 Polaroid V 130 Camcorder; 50% off on select toys; and children's clothing for between $5 to $7.

The ad said the merchant is also offering a free gift card worth $10 if you spend $100 or more at its stores from 5 a.m. to noon on Black Friday.

According to Target's circular, some of the sales are valid only on Black Friday while others are good through Saturday.

Target spokeswoman Sarah Boehle said the company "is unable to confirm the accuracy of any [Black Friday] two-day ads or pricing information that is posted online."

"Each year we chronicle lots of excitement about our ads when we hear that they were prematurely leaked,' said Boehle. "We really appreciate all the interest. We encourage consumers to look for our official [Black Friday] ad."

Target is expected to release its weekly circular the week of Nov. 22.

Shocking does not completely describe Nash’s face, which is almost unrecognizable as a human face. Eventually, she will receive a face transplant. However, she will never look the way she did prior to the accident. Nash went on to explain that she was never a vein person and only wants to get better and feel better. Nash’s family is suing the owner of the Chimpanzee for monetary damages.

WVLT-TV in Knoxville is reporting that two UT football players are now facing charges of armed robbery. Everyone that I was rooting for during the CMA Awards 2009 ended up winning. I love Taylor Swift because she is youg, and she hasn't let fame make her grow up too fast. She's refreshingly funny, and is multi-talented, as her music crosses over from country to top 40 seamlessly. Country music should love young artists such as Taylor Swift because they will inspire other young people to listen to that genre of music.

Sugarland won Vocal Duo of the year. Again, I was rooting for them because their music is so inspiring and wholesome.

Although Taylor Swift didn't have the most nominations (Brad Paisley did), she walked away with the most wins. Lady Antebellum had 2 wins, and Brad Paisley had 2 wins as well. Miss Swift had a whopping 4 wins, meaning she walked away with over 30% of the awards.

Justice for Johnny Gosch

John "Johnny" David Gosch was kidnapped on September 5, 1982, at age 12, only two blocks from his West Des Moines, Iowa, home, while delivering newspapers for the Des Moines Register. Soon after, he was drugged, molested, photographed, sold, and prostituted.

This was not a random kidnapping. Johnny was clearly targeted; in the weeks before the kidnapping, he was photographed near his home. The man who ordered his kidnapping, Col. Michael Aquino, has connections to the CIA ("Why Johnny Can't Come Home"). The identities of many of the perpetrators are known, and there are several witnesses to these crimes, but no one has ever been brought to justice. Local and federal law enforcement refuse to investigate any leads. The FBI has only worked to cover-up any details surrounding the case from surfacing.

Comedian Katt Williams was arrested Sunday night in Atlanta on charges of burglary and criminal trespassing. According to police authorities, Williams allegedly broke into a house and attempted to steal jewelry and other items

The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office reports Micah S. Katt Williams was arrested following a call from an unidentified homeowner Sunday night reporting an intruder had “gained entry by breaking into the home, and items were taken from the residence.” Katt Williams was identified as the suspect in the burglary and booked into the Coweta County Jail. Williams has been charged with burglary and criminal trespassing and is expect to be arraigned on Monday afternoon.
This is hardly the first time Williams has tangled with the law. The comedian and rapper was sentenced to three years’ probation in 2006 after being caught carrying a concealed firearm in his briefcase at the Los Angeles International Airport. A year ago, Williams was arrested again after police found a gun in his car during a traffic stop in New York City. Those charges were later dismissed

Porpoises are small cetaceans of the family Phocoenidae; they are related to whales and dolphins. They are distinct from dolphins, although the word "porpoise" (pronounced /ˈpɔrpəs/) has been used to refer to any small dolphin, especially by sailors and fishermen. The most obvious visible difference between the two groups is that porpoises have flattened, spade-shaped teeth distinct from the conical teeth of dolphins, and shorter beaks.

The name derives from French pourpois, originally from Medieval Latin porcopiscus (porcus pig + piscus fish).

Porpoises, divided into six species, live in all oceans, mostly near the shore. Freshwater populations of the Finless Porpoise also exist. Probably the best known species is the Harbour Porpoise, which can be found across the Northern Hemisphere. Like all toothed whales, porpoises are predators, using sounds to locate prey and to coordinate with others. They hunt fish, squid, and crustaceans.

Porpoises apparently diverged from dolphins about 15 million years ago in the northern Pacific, then spread across the globe much later.

Marine biologists have figured out why a growing number of dead harbor porpoises have been found on California beaches in recent years: dolphin attacks.

Now they're trying to determine a reason for them.

Okeanis, a Moss Landing-based conservation group, shot video of bottlenose dolphins fatally attacking a porpoise. It helps explain why carcasses were found with internal bleeding, rake marks and broken bones.

"We saw severe beatings," said Okeanis Chief Scientist Daniela Maldini. "It was a mob of dolphins."

The video shows male dolphins coralling the porpoise, ramming it and drowning it, then bringing the carcass to researchers on a boat and swimming away.

Those images, taken for the first time last September, were the first to even depict dolphin-on-porpoise violence.

Dan Costa, a professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at UC Santa Cruz, said such an act of violence is not as unusual as it might seem in the wild.

"Everybody thinks flipper is this nice, mellow animal," Costa said. "In the wild, there's interactions that occur and not all of them are friendly."

Scientists say about 74 dead porpoises washed up last year in the state.

Okeanis biologists are working with the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, Marine Mammal Center and other groups to find evidence that will shed more light on the attacks.

One possible explanation for the violence, according to Maldini, could be pent up sexual angst on behalf of male dolphins.

"It could be a little sexual frustration," she said, "and a lot of males around for very few females. That's my favorite in terms of an explanation, but at this point we're fascinated by the behavior and trying to figure it out."

Scientists now want to test the testosterone levels of the male dolphins to see if higher levels could be playing a role.

Maclaren Recalls One Million Strollers After Kids Lose Fingertips in Hinges

A major stroller recall is underway amid concerns that kids can get their fingertips cut off in the carriage hinge, New York’s Daily News reported.

Stroller maker Maclaren is expected to recall about 1 million umbrella strollers sold in the U.S. since 1999, according to the report. The move comes after 12 children reportedly had their fingertips amputated by the strollers.

"Parents should stop using these strollers right away," a source familiar with the recall told the newspaper.

Maclaren, which dubs itself as "a premier British parenting lifestyle company that produces the world's most safe, durable, innovative and stylish baby buggies and strollers," is planning to provide a free kit to cover the stroller's hinge mechanism, the newspaper reported.

The affected models include Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, Techno XLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno and Easy Traveller.

The voluntary recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

In a press release, the company said: "Safety is our first priority and through this voluntary effort we urge consumers to contact us immediately to obtain the kit which consists of hinge covers designed specifically to fit all Maclaren strollers."

In the USA TODAY college football rankings for week 11, TCU is fourth behind Florida, Texas and Alabama, with Cincinnati the new No. 5. The Bearcats leaped over unimpressive Boise State, which dropped to No. 6. In the AP college football poll, Florida, Texas, Alabama, TCU, Cincinnati and Boise State also make up the top 6 order.

Georgia Tech, Pitt, LSU and Ohio State make up the rest of the AP top 10, while the order in the USA TODAY has Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Pitt and USC. Both of the human college football rankings for week 11 are in agreement about the very top, but the BCS rankings are more important right now.

The college football rankings may be accurate in putting TCU as the best team in college football, beyond the Big 3. TCU will get a huge chance to prove it this week, as they visit top-15 Utah. If TCU wins there, and finishes perfect in a Mountain West conference with three top 25 teams, the Horned Frogs will be in the BCS, at least. But they are starting to dream of a national title shot.

However, the college football rankings of week 11 show once again how hard that will be. As long as Florida, Texas and Alabama keep winning, no one else has a chance. Their schedules for the rest of November are very manageable, so it would take a big upset to finally knock these three teams from their pedestals.

TCU and Cincinnati can only keep winning, though TCU has their tough test this week, and Cincinnati has a season-ending Big East title match with Pitt to end the year. If both teams pass these tests, and one of the top 3 slips, then the Horned Frogs and Bearcats could actually make a strong case to get to Pasadena. But of course, college football is likely hoping otherwise.

Hinchey Helps House Pass Bill to Extend Unemployment Insurance Benefits, Homebuyers’ Tax Credit, Business Tax Relief to Stimulate Local Economy

Washington, DC - November 5, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) today helped the House pass a bill to provide stability to American families hit hardest by the recession and to stimulate the local economy by extending unemployment benefits, the homebuyers’ tax credit, and tax relief for military families and businesses. The Emergency Unemployment Compensation Extension Act will provide immediate assistance, extending relief to millions of workers, families, and businesses nationwide. The legislation Hinchey voted for today will provide unemployed New Yorkers who have exhausted or will exhaust their benefits before the end of this year with an additional 20 weeks of emergency unemployment compensation. The extension is fully paid for and will provide an immediate, effective stimulus to the local economy. The Congressional Budget Office has cited unemployment benefits as one of the most cost-effective forms of economic stimulus, and every dollar spent on unemployment benefits generates $1.63 in new demand, according to Moody’s chief economist Mark Zandi.
Importantly, the bill also extends the popular $8,000 first-time homebuyers tax credit, which has been credited with helping to revive the housing market, to April 30, 2010 and provides a new $6,500 credit to homebuyers who have lived in their current residence for five years or more. It also helps military families struggling to make mortgage payments by making those payments tax-exempt.
To breathe life back into American businesses suffering from huge losses, the bill also allows U.S. companies to carry back losses incurred in either 2008 or 2009 against income earned in any of the five prior years.

For the 11th year in a row, Ironman Florida brings the race back to the warm Gulf waters of Panama City Beach. Last year’s event was a blast with many walking (or limping) away with personal best records and Bella Bayliss walking away with the trophy. This year’s event will start out in the Gulf behind Boardwalk Beach Resort and the final runners at the end of the race will finish their day at Spinnaker Beach club.

Panama City Beach Florida, with its vast and expansive beaches and emerald waters off the Gulf of Mexico, is a premium vacation spot for those seeking the warmth and sunshine of a tropical climate. This weekend, though, athletes will add a unique way to experience this paradise – by swimming 2.4 miles, biking 112 miles and running 26 miles.
On Saturday, the 11th edition of the Ford Ironman Florida will see over 2,200 participants start the race on a course that has “Personal Best” or “Personal Record” written all over it. With it’s two-looped swim out of the way, competitors head out on the single loop bike and double looped run courses that are both pancake flat and fast.
It will be no vacation here for those in the professional race. Five-time Ford Ironman Florida champion, Bella Bayliss (left), is returning to defend her title and will, without a doubt, be favored to win. With eleven Ironman championships on her resume, who can argue? Bayliss has five wins in Florida in eight attempts. She knows this course and what it takes to win here.
Nina Kraft and Heather Gollnick both possess multiple Ironman titles and will present Bayliss with a challenge on Saturday.
Kraft won Ford Ironman Florida in 2007. The 40-year-old also has two wins in stand-alone marathons this year. She ran in the 2:45 range for both of them and arrives in Panama City Beach fit. If she’s on her game, Kraft could make Bayliss’s attempt to win her sixth Ironman Florida title a bit of a challenge.

It's hard to imagine how Grammy-winning producer-songwriter David Foster can sound even remotely morbid.

Foster recently reflected on his enduring status as an in-demand studio whiz. One of his latest efforts, the Foster-produced "Crazy Love" by Michael Bublé, topped the Billboard album charts two weeks ago. And now, some of the biggest acts whose hits he produced or wrote, from Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind & Fire to Peter Cetera of Chicago to Ruben Studdard of "American Idol" fame, are teaming up for "David Foster & Friends."

The barnstorming national touring, coming to HP Pavilion on Friday, is essentially a celebration of Foster's 35-year legacy as a songwriter and producer.

"its kind of my funeral while I'm still alive," Foster says by phone from his home in Los Angeles, "and I get to watch as these people pay tribute to me."

Foster has demonstrated remarkable staying power. Though the 59-year-old Canadian was knocked by the likes of Rolling Stone magazine in the '80s for his carefully crafted pop confections, his work has consistently charted. The likes of Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and Barbra Streisand have enlisted him to work his magic, and Whitney Houston scored her biggest hit with the Foster-produced "I Will Always Love You."

Foster's continuing success can be partially attributed to his ability to adapt to music industry changes. Early on, he recognized the potency of reality TV by appearing on "Popstars" and "The Princes of Malibu" and guest starring on "American Idol" and "Nashville Star."

And as he has shepherded young artists throughout his career, he has a new diva in the making in Charice, a Filipina chanteuse who he's convinced is destined for greatness.

That passion for nurturing young artists, also via digital means, is at play in "David Foster & Friends" with an unknown performer, discovered through a talent search on the Web site NameDrop.com, joining the lineup each night. An aspiring Bay Area singer also will join the party at HP Pavilion on Friday.

Foster notes that a tour with a varied lineup of performers is akin to the old Motown packages or Dick Clark Caravan of Stars that in the '60s. Singers are indeed taking turns presenting the best of Foster, such as Bailey on Earth, Wind & Fire's "After the Love Has Gone" or Cetera on Chicago's "You're the Inspiration."

For those longtime Foster associates not on the bill, performers such as Studdard and Charice are stepping up with their own versions of such Foster-guided hits as "I Will Always Love You."

The concert itself gives Foster, who performed in the early '70s as the keyboardist of the band Skylark, the chance to get in front of an audience as a sort of master of ceremonies behind the piano.

"I kind of honed my hosting skills because I got to do a lot of charity concerts," he says. "And I like the idea of seven or eight performers coming at you.

"My music is niche, for sure, but it does cover a fairly wide spectrum, if you think from Alice Cooper to Earth, Wind & Fire to Barbra Streisand to Madonna to the Tubes."

After his career as a performer with Skylark and later the band Attitudes, Foster branched out in the late '70s as a songwriter and producer. "After the Love is Gone," which he cowrote, was the first of his 15 Grammy wins, in 1979.

Through the '80s, he became a go-to songsmith, producing and writing a series of No. 1 singles, including Chicago's "Hard to Say I'm Sorry," Peter Cetera's "The Glory of Love" and John Parr's "St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)." Nearly every major pop star at one time or another turned to Foster, including Dionne Warwick, Neil Diamond, Chaka Khan, Kenny Rogers, Kenny Loggins and Olivia Newton-John.

In the '90s, his Midas touch continued with his production of such songs as Michael Jackson's "Earth Song"; Celine Dion's "The Power of Love," "Because You Loved Me" and "All By Myself,"; Natalie Cole's "Unforgettable"; and Madonna's "You'll See."

The producer also developed a reputation as a talent scout. He helped launch the career of the Irish group the Corrs and is credited with discovering Josh Groban and Bublé, both of whom he went on to produce.

Foster often has his mind on what's next in the studio, but the tour has offered him a chance to look back on how his life's work has touched fans. Performers like Houston of Bublé have experienced the immediacy of seeing fans at the concerts respond to the music. For Foster, the shows have given him the rare chance to step outside of the studio and get a sense of how his music has made an impact.

"To get to see faces sing along to your songs — artists get to see that every night — but for a behind-the-scenes person like me, you don't know who you are reaching," Foster says.

"That's pretty great."

Father, Daughter Reunited After 30 Years

ATLANTA -- For the past three decades, Dr. Scott Becker has been searching for his daughter, April Becker-Antoniou.
Five days ago, Antoniou Googled her own name and found a Web site named after her. Now, the father and daughter who have no connection to Atlanta are meeting for the first time at Chops Steakhouse in Buckhead. Antoniou was born in Southern California, but recently moved to Newnan, Georgia. Dr. Becker lives in Wichita, Kansas.“I started looking for her and I could not find her. I could not find her mother. I couldn’t find April and I looked and I looked and I looked. So, I thought maybe one day my daughter will Google her name and maybe she will find me that way and five days ago she found me,” Becker said.He named the Web site after her and while Antoniou was typing her name in, “Scott Becker looking for April,” the Web site he created nearly 10 years ago, popped up. The two communicated by e-mail and over the phone for the past five days. Becker said he confirmed her mother’s maiden name, her birthday, middle name and some other specific details only his daughter would know.“He is absolutely my father. I just felt like I wasn’t complete and now I feel peace,” Antoniou said. Practically overnight, Dr. Becker became a grandfather. “It’s just awesome, I never thought I would find my daughter and here she is,” said Becker. “I always asked my mom information about my father so I could find him, ” Antoniou said.On Antoniou’s Facebook page she writes, “you think I could have Googled that 7 years ago and saved myself the yearly torment. But, it all happens when it happens for a reason. I'm still in shock. I was at the point where I just figured I would never meet him. Glad I was wrong. He is positive both are father and daughter, he will not be seeking a DNA test. “I found my daughter." Dr. Becker said. "I am finally complete.”

WASHINGTON — A 5.7-millimeter pistol used in the Fort Hood shooting was purchased legally by suspect Nidal Hasan at a Texas gun shop, law enforcement officials said Friday.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case.
Records indicate Hasan bought the FN 5.7 at store called “Guns Galore” in Killeen, Texas, in recent months and that gun was used in the attack that left 13 people dead, one of the officials said. The pistol has been dubbed a “cop killer” by those who have tried to stop its use.
Army officials said Hasan also was carrying another handgun.
One of the law enforcement officials said that gun was an older model Smith & Wesson .357-caliber revolver, but the official added there’s nothing so far to indicate the second weapon was fired. The official said the revolver was so old, investigators doubt it could be traced to a specific purchase.
